Timer with alarm sound

Set the time, tap Start and switch tabs if you like: the alarm still rings on time.

The time is kept in your browser.

05:00

Length

Keep this tab open: it rings while you're in another one, but not once it's closed.

How to use it

  1. Type hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a quick time from 1 to 60 minutes.
  2. Tap Start; if something comes up, tap Pause and then Resume.
  3. Keep the tab open: the alarm rings even while you're in another one.
  4. When it rings, tap Stop alarm, or let it go quiet on its own after 30 seconds.

How it works

When you tap Start, the timer uses your device's clock to work out the exact moment it ends. It doesn't count second by second. In a background tab, or after your computer sleeps, it still shows the right time.

On start, the alarm is scheduled on your browser's audio clock. That's why it rings on time while you're in another tab, but not once you close it.

The alarm is a beep your browser makes, with no audio files. It rings for 30 seconds or until you tap Stop alarm, and phones that allow it vibrate. The time is never saved or sent to a server.

Example

You put a batch of cookies in the oven for 12 minutes. You type 12 in Minutes and tap Start.

Then you answer email in another tab. The timer's tab shows the time left, like 07:42. At 12 minutes the alarm rings, before anything starts to burn.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a timer online?

Type hours, minutes and seconds, or tap a quick time, then tap Start. You can set anything from 1 second to 24 hours.

Will the timer ring if I switch tabs?

Yes, it rings while you're in another tab, but not if you close the timer's tab. To check your volume first, tap Test sound: it plays one second of the alarm.

Does the timer ring with my phone's screen off?

It depends on the browser: some phones mute the sound once the screen turns off. To avoid that, turn on Keep the screen on, where your browser offers it. On iPhone, silent mode mutes it too: turn it off and check with Test sound.

How long can I set the timer for?

From 1 second to 24 hours. The quick times are 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes.

How do I stop the timer alarm?

Tap Stop alarm, and the timer goes back to the time you set. If you don't, the alarm goes quiet on its own after 30 seconds.

Can I make the timer full screen?

Yes, with the Full screen button, in browsers that allow it. It isn't available on iPhone.
