Privacy Policy
Byterama's tools run in your browser, so your files and the numbers you type never reach us. This policy explains the little information we do receive, the cookies used by ads and what happens when you follow a link to Amazon. It also explains your choices.
The short version
- Your files and the values you type into our tools are processed on your device. They are never uploaded to, stored on or logged by our servers.
- There are no user accounts, logins, newsletters or comments.
- We measure visits and page speed with Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. We do not use Google Analytics.
- Once ads are active, ads from Google AdSense will use cookies and may be personalized. You can opt out of personalized ads.
- If you click one of our Amazon affiliate links, Amazon may set its own cookies.
- Once ads are active, personalized ads can count as “sharing” personal information under some U.S. state laws. You can opt out.
- If you email us, we use your address and your message only to reply to you.
Who we are
Byterama (byterama.com) is a website of free web tools. The party responsible for it and for this policy is Byterama (“Byterama,” “we,” “us” and “our”).
Email: .
This policy covers all of byterama.com, in English and in Spanish. We also publish a privacy notice in Spanish under Mexican law.
Your files and entries never reach our servers
Byterama's tools run entirely in your web browser. When you convert an image, the conversion happens on your device. When you type values into a calculator, the calculation happens there too.
Your files and the values you enter are never uploaded to, stored on or logged by our servers. We cannot see them, so we cannot share them with anyone.
The Secret Santa draw also runs on your device. Names travel only inside the links you share. They are encrypted after the #, the part browsers don't send to our servers. The key travels in the same link, so anyone who gets it can see the assignment it carries. The link stays in the chat you share it through and in the browser history of whoever opens it.
The countdown to a date also runs on your device. The date and the title you type travel only in the link you create, after the #, the part browsers don't send to our servers. They are not encrypted: anyone who gets the link can see them. The link stays wherever you share it and in the browser history of whoever opens it.
The wheel and the name picker keep your list of names in your browser's local storage (the keys “wheel-entries” and “picker-entries”), so it's there next time. The list is never sent to us, and the “Clear list” button deletes it.
The mic and webcam tests use your microphone or camera only after you tap the button to start, and only with your browser's permission. The sound and the picture show on your screen and nothing more: they are not recorded, not stored and never leave your device.
Information we collect
You do not need to give us any information to use the tools. We receive only the following.
Collected automatically when you visit:
- Request data: like any website host, Vercel receives technical details with each page request, such as your IP address and your browser's user agent. Vercel handles this data to run and protect the site, under its own Privacy Notice.
- Analytics data: page views and page-speed measurements from Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. See Analytics.
- Advertising data: once ads are active, Google and its ad partners collect information through cookies and similar technologies. See Ads from Google.
Information you give us: if you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include, such as your name or attachments.
In the categories used by California law, this is: identifiers (such as IP address, cookie IDs once ads are active and, if you write to us, your email address); internet activity (such as pages viewed, the referring page and, once ads are active, interactions with ads); approximate location (country, region or city, derived from your IP address); and the content of any email you send us.
What we do not collect: there are no accounts, sign-up forms, newsletters or comments. Our pages do not load social media plugins, and our fonts are served from our own site, not from Google Fonts.
How we use and share information
We use information only to:
- deliver the site and protect it from abuse
- see which pages are used and how fast they load, in aggregate, so we can improve the site
- once ads are active, show the ads that will pay for Byterama
- once affiliate links are active, earn commissions on qualifying Amazon purchases made through our links
- reply to emails you send us
These categories of third parties receive information:
- Vercel, our hosting and analytics provider
- once ads are active, Google and the ad partners that serve ads through Google AdSense
- once affiliate links are active, Amazon, when you click one of our affiliate links
- our email provider, which stores the messages you send us
- courts, regulators or law enforcement, when the law requires it
Analytics
We use two tools from our host, Vercel, to see how the site is used and how fast it loads. We do not use Google Analytics.
Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies. It recognizes a visitor by a hash created from the incoming request, and that hash resets every day, so it cannot follow you from one day to the next or across other websites. For each page view it can record:
- the date and time
- the page address and route, without query parameters or fragments
- the referring page
- approximate location: country, region and city
- operating system, browser and their versions
- device type: desktop, mobile or tablet
- the version of the analytics script
We see this information only as aggregated statistics.
Vercel Speed Insights measures page performance with metrics known as Web Vitals, such as how quickly content appears. Vercel designed it so the data is not tied to any individual visitor or IP address. Each measurement can include the page route and address, network speed, browser, operating system, device type, country, the metric and the page element it refers to, the version of the measuring code and the time Vercel received it.
Vercel explains both tools in its Web Analytics privacy documentation and its Speed Insights privacy documentation.
Ads from Google
Byterama will use Google AdSense to show ads. This section describes what happens once AdSense is active on our pages.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Byterama or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to Byterama and/or other sites on the internet.
When a page with Google ads loads, your browser sends Google information such as the page address and your IP address. Google and other ad companies may place and read cookies in your browser, or use web beacons, device identifiers or your IP address, to show, personalize and measure ads and to protect against fraud and abuse.
Other ad companies (third-party vendors and ad networks) may also serve ads on Byterama through Google AdSense and use their own cookies.
Your choices:
- Turn off personalized ads from Google in Google's Ads Settings.
- Opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads with WebChoices, the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out tool. YourAdChoices explains how it works.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Google notes that it may still personalize ads with other technologies unless you also turn off personalized ads in Ads Settings.
- In the United States, see Selling and sharing personal information. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, see Visitors outside the United States.
If you opt out, you will still see ads, but they will be based on things like the page you are reading and your general location instead of your browsing history.
To learn more, read Google's page How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
Amazon affiliate links
Some pages may link to products on Amazon through Amazon's affiliate programs: our English pages will link to Amazon.com and our Spanish pages to Amazon.com.mx. These links will carry a tag that tells Amazon the visit came from Byterama, so we can earn a commission on qualifying purchases. The tag does not change the price you pay.
When you click one of these links, you leave Byterama and go to Amazon, which may set or read its own cookies and collect information under its own privacy notice, such as the Amazon.com Privacy Notice. Our Affiliate Disclosure has more details.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies include web beacons (also called pixels), local storage and device identifiers.
- Byterama does not set cookies of its own, and Vercel Web Analytics does not use cookies. If you pick the light or dark theme with the site's button, your browser keeps that choice in its local storage (the key “theme”); it holds no personal data and is never sent to us.
- Google's ad and consent tools may set cookies on Google domains (such as doubleclick.net) and under byterama.com. Google lists them on its page Cookie information for Google's ad products.
- Amazon may set its own cookies after you click through to Amazon.
Third parties, including Google and other advertisers on our pages, and Amazon on its own site after you click one of our links, may serve content and ads, collect information directly from you, and place or recognize cookies in your browser.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. For choices about ad cookies, see Ads from Google.
How we respond to Do Not Track signals
Do Not Track (DNT) is a browser setting that asks websites not to track you. There is no common standard for responding to it, and Byterama does not change how it works when your browser sends DNT.
Global Privacy Control (GPC) is a newer browser signal that asks websites not to sell or share your personal information. Byterama does not detect or respond to GPC. To opt out, see Selling and sharing personal information.
Tracking by other companies: when you use Byterama, Google and other ad companies may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites, as described in Ads from Google. Our own analytics do not track you across websites.
Selling and sharing personal information
Some U.S. state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), give you the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, or of its use for targeted advertising. Under the CCPA, sharing means making personal information available to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising: ads based on your activity across different websites.
Before AdSense is active on Byterama, we do not sell or share personal information.
Once AdSense is active, we allow Google and its ad partners to collect identifiers (such as cookie IDs and IP addresses), information about your activity on our pages and your approximate location so they can show personalized ads. We treat this as sharing, and as a sale or as targeted advertising where a state law defines it that way. We do not sell or share anything else: not the emails you send us, and never your files or tool entries, which never reach us.
How to opt out:
- “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”: once ads are active, visitors in the U.S. states covered by Google's privacy message will see this link on our pages. Your choice will be saved in that browser, so if you clear your cookies or switch browsers or devices, you will need to choose again.
- Google and industry tools: turn off personalized ads in Google's Ads Settings or use WebChoices, the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out tool.
Once ads are active, you will be able to review or change your choices at any time with the privacy choices link at the bottom of every page.
We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. To use Byterama, we never ask for sensitive personal information, such as government ID numbers, financial account details or precise location.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- know what personal information we have about you and get a copy
- correct inaccurate information
- delete your information
- opt out of the sale or sharing of your information and of targeted advertising
- not be treated differently for using these rights
To make a request, email with “Privacy request” in the subject line. Tell us what you would like us to do and how to find the information, for example the email address you wrote to us from. To protect your information, we may need to confirm that the request comes from you, for example by replying to that address. An authorized agent can make a request for you; we may ask for proof that you gave them permission. We will respond within the time the applicable law requires.
Opting out of sale or sharing has to happen in your browser, because we cannot connect an email address to the browser you use on our site. Use the options in Selling and sharing personal information. If you email us instead, we will reply with those steps.
Apart from the emails you send us, we do not keep personal information about individual visitors: our analytics are aggregated, Vercel handles request data, and Google and its partners control the ad data they collect. You can manage ad data with the tools in Ads from Google.
Wherever you live, you can also exercise ARCO rights, the rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition under Mexican law. Our privacy notice in Spanish explains how.
Retention and security
We keep emails only as long as we need them to reply to you and handle any follow-up.
Vercel Web Analytics resets its visitor hash every day. Vercel, Google and Amazon keep the data they collect according to their own policies.
Every page is served over HTTPS, and we keep what we receive to a minimum. Because your files and tool entries never reach our servers, a breach of our systems cannot expose them. Still, no website can guarantee perfect security. If a security breach significantly affects your rights, we will report it right away by email to the affected people whose address we have and with a notice on this site, so you can protect yourself.
Children's privacy
Byterama is a general-audience site. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If you are under 13, please do not email us. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Visitors outside the United States
Once ads are active, if you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google's consent message will ask for your consent before cookies are used where the law requires it and before your data is used to personalize ads. You will be able to change or withdraw your consent at any time with the privacy choices link at the bottom of every page.
Our providers, such as Vercel and Google, may process information in the United States and in other countries.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, for example if we add a contact form or a new ad or analytics provider.
We will post the updated policy on this page with a new “Last updated” date. If a change is significant, we will also summarize it at the top of this page. This policy is effective as of the “Last updated” date shown on this page.
