Pomodoro timer online

Focus for 25 minutes, break for 5, repeat. Phases switch on their own and a bell rings.

The time is kept in your browser.

Focus

25:00

Pomodoros done: 0

Lengths

Phases follow one another and a bell rings at each change, even while you're in another tab.

How to use it

  1. If you like, change the lengths: focus, short break, long break and how many pomodoros until the long one.
  2. Tap Start and work on a single task until the bell rings.
  3. The break starts on its own, and the counter adds one pomodoro.
  4. Tap Pause if you're interrupted, or Skip to the next phase if you finish early.

How it works

The Pomodoro Technique splits work into 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute breaks. After every 4 pomodoros, you get a 15-minute long break. Pomodoro is Italian for tomato, after the kitchen timer that gave the method its name.

Each phase starts the moment the last one ended on your device's clock. The bells are scheduled ahead on your browser's audio clock, about 12 at a time. That's why they ring on time even while you're in another tab.

The tab title shows the time left and the phase. The time is kept in your browser and nothing is saved. Reload the page and it starts over; close it and the timer stops.

Example

Jake is studying for the SAT. He taps Start at 4:00 p.m., and at 4:25 the bell rings: his 5-minute break begins.

At 4:30 focus is back. After his fourth pomodoro, at 5:55, he gets a 15-minute long break.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Pomodoro Technique?

It's a way to work in 25-minute focus sessions with 5-minute breaks. Every 4 pomodoros, you take a longer 15-minute break.

Can I change the 25-minute timer?

Yes, focus can be 1 to 120 minutes and the short break 1 to 60. The long break can be 1 to 120 minutes, every 2 to 12 pomodoros. The fields lock while it runs, so pause to change them.

Does the Pomodoro timer work in a background tab?

Yes. The bells are scheduled ahead in your browser, so they ring on time while you use another tab. If you close the tab, the timer stops.

Does the Pomodoro timer work on my phone?

Yes, in up-to-date browsers on Android and iPhone. Turn on Keep the screen on and turn off the iPhone's silent mode, or the bell may not sound. Where the browser allows it, your phone also vibrates at each change.

What happens when I skip a phase?

You move to the next phase, at its full length. Skipping a focus session counts it as a pomodoro done.

Are my pomodoros saved?

No. The count and your lengths last only while the page is open. Reload it and the count goes back to zero, and the lengths to 25, 5 and 15 minutes.
