Random number generator

Set the lowest and highest number, tap Generate, and get a random number in that range.

The numbers are generated in your browser.

    How to use it

    1. Type your range in From and To; both ends are included.
    2. In How many numbers, choose 1 to 100.
    3. Check No repeats or Sort from low to high if you need them.
    4. Tap Generate, and use Copy when you get more than one number.

    How it works

Each number comes from your browser's cryptographic generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same engine as the wheel of names. Values that would tilt the odds are thrown out and drawn again. So every number in the range is exactly as likely.

The range includes both ends and goes from −1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000. With No repeats, each number comes up once at most. So the range must hold at least as many numbers as you ask for.

It all runs in your browser: the numbers aren't saved or sent to a server. Reload the page and they're gone.

    Example

Your office raffle sold 150 tickets for a holiday gift basket. You type 1 and 150, ask for 1 number and tap Generate: ticket 87 wins.

With three prizes, you ask for 3 numbers with No repeats, so no ticket wins twice. And nobody can say the boss picked them.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?

Leave From at 1 and To at 100, which is how the page opens, and tap Generate. Each number has a 1 in 100 chance.

Is this random number generator truly random?

Yes. The numbers come from your browser's cryptographic generator, with no bias: every number in the range is equally likely.

How do I generate random numbers without repeats?

Ask for 1 to 100 numbers and check No repeats, and each one comes up once at most. The range must hold at least that many numbers.

Can I use it for a raffle or a giveaway?

Yes. Number the tickets or the entries, set the range and tap Generate. For several winners, check No repeats.

    Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. The range goes from −1,000,000,000 to 1,000,000,000, so either end can be negative. It takes whole numbers only, with no decimals.

    Are the numbers saved?

No. They stay on screen until you generate new ones or reload the page, and they're never sent anywhere. With more than one number, Copy copies them separated by commas.
